ABOUT BEING POSITIVE
Experience in living with Parkinson's and supporting those diagnosed with Parkinson's has shown us that being positive is incredibly important in improving and maintaining the quality of your life.
We have designed this website with that in mind. Trying to remain positive in every moment of every day, we acknowledge is not easy and there will be times inevitably, when other feelings and emotions rise up and take over. We are encouraging you wherever possible to combat those, simply because it is so easy to give in to them and sink back again into lethargy, apathy and negativity, all of which leads to depression. These are natural consequences of Parkinson's so the fight against them has to be constant, daily and unrelenting. Further you ALWAYS have a CHOICE. You can choose your ATTITUDE towards life every moment of every day, regardless of the situation or your condition. (There is an inspirational story at the bottom of the 'Attitudes' page about this).
Before launching this website in its design stage, we sought feedback and contributions from a variety of knowledgeable people, including many who had had been diagnosed with Parkinson's many years ago. We also talked to supporters to try and ensure it was as effective and useful to you as possible.
One comment we couldn't ignore was that it was just too damn positive and it was exhausting just to consider it. Thus we inserted this page specially to explain why it is as it is, and also so that you understand it is perfectly O.K and permissable to feel bad sometimes. We are not suggesting an unremitting 100% positive attitude is possible every second of every day. However whilst we acknowledge you need times for sadness, anger and frustration as it is only human to be like that from time to time, we have chosen to write the website, with only this page as acceptance of that fact. The tone and attitude everywhere else is POSITIVE, POSITIVE, POSITIVE - because you truly do need to stay positive as much as you possibly can.
Why is this? Because it is only too easy for our anger, sadness, tiredness, depression, frustration to act as a 'get out clause'. Being positive takes energy, effort, will, determination, tenacity and we view our task as focusing on that message and that message alone, so once past this page that is what you will get!! Here is a valuable quote which applies to everyone in life but especially those diagnosed with Parkinson's.
NOTHING IN THE WORLD CAN TAKE THE PLACE OF PERSISTENCE.
TALENT WILL NOT; NOTHING IS MORE COMMON THAN UNSUCCESSFUL MEN WITH TALENT.
GENIUS WILL NOT; UNREWARDED GENIUS IS ALMOST A PROVERB.
EDUCATION WILL NOT; THE WORLD IS FULL OF EDUCATED DERELICTS.
PERSISTENCE AND DETERMINATION ARE OMNIPOTENT
